Can I get fake braces?
While this is thankfully rare, fake braces are still a fad we’ve seen occasionally over the years. Essentially, fake braces are “look alike” products that try to imitate the appearance of real orthodontic braces. They’ve been particularly popular as a fashion statement in Thailand, but they also exist in the US.
Why are fake braces illegal?
The president of the Dental Council imposed the ban because some of these braces leaked heavy metals like cadmium, causing mouth damage and heart disease. These metals leaking out of the braces can also cause liver damage and cancer.
Do fake braces hurt?
Lastly, fake braces commonly lead to mouth sores that can become infected and be very painful. The glue used to attach the brackets to the teeth can also cause tooth discoloration and even tooth decay.
Are Fake braces illegal?
Homemade braces are no match for professional orthodontic equipment. Selling and distributing non-professional do-it-yourself braces is illegal, and if caught, fines and jail time can be involved.
Is DIY braces safe?
DIY braces are not safe. In the case of DIY techniques, it might be tempting to brush off doctors’ opinions as representing unlikely situations. However, when it comes to DIY braces, the possibility of permanent damage is very real.

Use the pliers: Use the pliers to grab on the bracket, then gently twist it to pop them off. Many people say it doesn’t hurt to do this to their back teeth, but removing the bracket from the front teeth is very painful. Brush your teeth: Next, you should gently brush your teeth.

Technically, you’re never too old for braces. However, that doesn’t mean you should continue to put off treatment.
