How long do spacers hurt for?
Generally, this discomfort of spacers will fade as your teeth get used to the feeling of the spacers. Your teeth should stop hurting after 2-3 days, but you might still feel the pressure of the orthodontic separators throughout the time they are between your teeth.
How long do you wear spacers?
Most often, you will wear your spacers for about 7-10 days, immediately before the appointment when your braces will be fitted. In some cases, you may need to wear the spacers for the entire length of your orthodontic treatment, and, sometimes, they may even replace metal bands.
What is the next step after spacers for braces?
If you had spacers placed, these will be removed and replaced with the metal bands. First, your orthodontist will slip on a few different band sizes to determine the best fit for your tooth. Once the band size has been determined, glue will be placed on the inside of the band and the band will be slid onto your tooth.
What can you not eat with spacers?
You may eat normally with the separators in, but we do recommend avoiding chewing gum and very sticky foods, like chewey/sticky candy (caramel, taffy, tootsie rolls, gummy bears, Snickers bars, and any other sticky candy), as they may make your separators fall out prematurely.
Do expanders hurt more than braces?
Does A Palate Expander Hurt? A palatal expander isn’t the most comfortable orthodontic appliance, however, it isn’t very painful. The most uncomfortable part of the expander process is the orthodontic separators that are placed to make space in between your teeth.
Do spacers fall out on their own?
While the spacers will need to stay in place for a few days to a week they often will fall out on their own. Don’t be alarmed if this happens, it just means that enough space has been created between the teeth.
What should I do if my spacer fell out?
If a spacer should fall out, this is not an emergency. Call the office the next business day, and we will make arrangements to have if replaced. It is important if a spacer does come out after the first few days of placement to have it replaced.
Are braces painful?
The honest answer is that braces do not hurt at all when they are applied to the teeth, so there is no reason to be anxious about the placement appointment. There will be mild soreness or discomfort after the orthodontic wire is engaged into the newly placed brackets, which may last for a few days to a week.
Do braces move your teeth everyday?
The short answer to the question of whether braces move your teeth everyday is yes. Nevertheless, due to the speed of teeth shifting, braces must be worn for significant and often, unfavorable lengths of time.

Do orthodontist clean teeth before braces?
Your teeth need to be adequately cleaned before you get braces so that they properly attach to your teeth. And of course, don’t forget to floss and brush before your appointment. If they aren’t clean enough, your orthodontist will have to clean your teeth with a polishing paste before affixing the braces.
Can you eat pizza with braces?
You can still eat pizza when you have braces, but it all comes down to the type of pizza. The best way to go is soft-crust pizza. Tougher crusts or thin crusts can damage your braces and get stuck between the wires, brackets and your teeth. You could even have fun making your own pizza to suit your orthodontics.
Can I eat chips with an expander?
To protect your braces and expanders, avoid HARD, STICKY, CHEWY, and CRUNCHY foods. Hard and crunchy foods can break or damage wires, brackets, and expanders. Sticky and chewy foods can get caught between brackets and wires, cling to expander plastic and bands, and pull appliances off.
Can I eat chips with braces?
Can I eat chips with braces? Yes, you just need to select the right ones. Pringles, “baked” chips and Cheeto Puffs/Fries are great braces options for chips. Just try to remember to eat ONE CHIP AT A TIME, so that you don’t accidentally break a bracket.
